One of the biggest artificial reefs is now open to the public

The World War II ship called Vanderberg intentionally sunk on Wednesday last week to create an artificial reef in National Marine Sanctuary, Florida is now open to the public.

The wreck is so big that the  structure begins about 45 feet below the surface but the bottom of the Vandersberg's hull rests on seabed in depth that average 145 feet.

First divers were amazed and said it was their best wreck dive.

The owner of Dive Key West and president of the Keys Association of Dive Operators Bob Holston said that the wreck is already attracting visitors from all around the world. His business has more pre-bookings for the summer now than it has had in 38 years.

The wreck will not only attract divers but will help to protect the reefs, that are already suffer from excessive diving, snorkelling and fishing.
