Scuba diver died while diving on West Beach, New Bedford
Tan V. Tran, 54-year-old Vietnamese diver, who lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts died yesterday straight after he jumped into the water. He was together with his wife on their small fishing boat when accident occurred. According to witnesses he jumped face-first into the water and moments later emerged on the surface unconscious.
His wife yelled for help and witnesses called 911. The accident occurred about 100 yards away from the Coral Street boat ramp so members of public were able to hear Tran's wife.
Tran was taken to St. Luke's hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The local shellfish constable Pete Scieszka thinks this tragic accident happened because of lack of experience, as fully equipped diver should not jump face-first into the water.
