Hundreds attend funeral of diver who drowned last year in the Red Sea


The funeral was held at St Helens Parish Church (USA) yesterday. Many people who new 52-year-old Alan Costello attended the service.

Alan died while exploring a shipwreck in the Red Sea, Egypt over a year ago, but his body was found only nine months later by a team of technical divers from the UK. There were three unsuccessful searches during that time and a lot of people were telling to his widow Tracy that the body would not be found. However she was determined to carry on the searches and finally Alan was found in the engine room of the sunken ship.

Tracey asked those specialist divers to be a pallbearers. They agreed and as they carried Alan's coffin out of church there was applause from mourners.

Alan Costello was cremated after the service.
