Dive instructor in court for statutory rape of 15-year-old girl
Yesterday, a girl from Sedgefield (South Africa) said in the Knysna Regional Court that she was raped by 50-year-old diving instructor when she was 15 years of age.
However mr McKenna pleaded not guilty at the start of his trial yesterday.
Girl's mother told that her daughter met mr McKenna via a school friend and he became a close family friend over 2007.
She said the family had financial difficulties as she doesn't have a husband and mr McKenna helped to pay bills. He also taught the girl to scuba dive and promised to find her work on a cruise liner.
Sometimes the girl slept in his house when it was convenient.
The girl eventually told her 24-year-old sister that she was raped.
Mr McKenna was arrested in 2007 but released later pending his trial.
